Early in 2020, on a walk one February afternoon, I was reflecting on the work I had done over the past 25 years – as a chaplain in behavioral health, a senior living community, and a VA hospital; as a campus minister and non-profit executive director; as a church pastor; as a freelance journalist, and even as a salesperson.
About Me.
I asked myself two questions:
- Which tasks and situations felt the most draining and depleting?
- And which were the most energizing, meaningful and life-giving?
My answers to the second question: deeply listening to people’s stories; helping them discover their strengths, connections and resources; encouraging them to imagine new possibilities; walking beside them as they took steps forward; and celebrating their successes..
I had a realization: Isn’t this what coaches do?
I founded Grace and Truth Coaching because I believe everyone needs both grace and truth to reach their full potential.
Truth to look at what’s keeping us stuck; what we need to let go of, and why we hesitate to commit to ourselves.
Grace because we are human, and are worthy of love and forgiveness. Mistakes and failures are opportunities to grow in wisdom, if we can practice self-kindness and allow them to teach us.
So that’s me -- what’s your story? How can we work together to begin writing your next chapter?
“With Rebecca's help, I have been able to look at myself, define myself better, and most of all, appreciate myself. Her kindness, thoroughness, and positive spirit is how I believe every coach should be!”
